Research Brief: Progress Toward AZCCRS Mastery

- For the set of items aligned to a given AZCCRS, we can aggregate the individual item parameters to establish the average item parameters for that standard.
- Using the average item parameters for the standard, we can estimate the percentage of students with a given percentile rank who are likely to master that standard.
- In this way, the use of IRT significantly benefits the current research because standards mastery can be evaluated based on the entire ATI item bank and the entire population of Arizona students served by ATI rather than a small set of students and items from one specific assessment.
- This study focused on 3rd and 8th Grade Math and ELA AZCCRS.
- On average, item parameters were available for approximately 12 items per standard in 3rd Grade Math, 21 items per standard in 3rd Grade ELA, 12 items per standard in 8th Grade Math, and 26 items per standard in 8th Grade ELA.
